The
Regional Muzeum in Łuków is hausted in Szaniawski convent school which was
founded by Bishop of Kraków in 1732. The building is one of the few historic
bulidings in the town. The department of ethnography has a lot of tasks to do,
for example collecting, storing and developing collections int the field of
culture and folk Art: sculpture, weaving and weaving machines, folk painting,
equipment of agriculture and other exhibits which are connected with folk
culture of the region and researching with educational actvities of folk
culture. From the fauna preserved in the deposits of the Jurassic ice floe
there is a majority of marine invertebrates (dating back 160 million years), in
particular ammonities, belemnites, bivalves and snails. These exhibits are very
well preserved. The museum collections feature 97 exhibits of these fossils.
